Somewhere along the way, a lot of friend groups quietly swapped actual plans for the appearance of them. The chat is active. Memes get sent. Someone floats "we should all get together" every few weeks. And somehow, months pass without anyone actually being in the same room.
It's an easy trap because the chat genuinely does feel like contact. You're talking to these people, technically, every day. It just isn't the kind of contact that leaves you feeling like you actually saw anyone.
Part of the problem is that group plans have a coordination cost that scales badly. Getting five people's schedules to line up is genuinely hard, so the group defaults to talking about hanging out instead of doing it, because talking about it is available to everyone right now and doing it isn't.
The version that actually works more often is smaller and less negotiated. Not "let's all get together soon," but one specific person, one specific thing, one specific day. Coffee with one friend on Thursday is a plan. "We should all catch up sometime" is a nice sentiment that five different schedules will quietly kill.
If your actual friend group can't find a Tuesday, that doesn't mean you're stuck waiting for everyone else's calendar to align. It's completely fine to find your plans elsewhere in the meantime, a Mate for the coffee or the walk or the game your friends keep meaning to do with you, so the week has at least one thing in it that actually happened, instead of one more thing everyone agreed would be nice.
